United Construction Group FAQs

What services do United Construction Group provide?

United Construction Group specialises in high-quality loft conversions, home extensions, full property renovations and general building work across London and surrounding areas. We handle the entire process from design and planning approvals through to construction, finishing works and after-care support. Whether you want to expand your home, improve your layout, or increase property value, our team delivers a complete and reliable service tailored to your goals.

Do I need planning permission for my loft conversion or extension?

Not always. Many loft conversions and certain types of home extensions can be built under permitted development rights, meaning a full planning application may not be required. However, this depends on the size and design of the project, as well as the type and location of the property. During our initial assessment, we will advise whether your plans require planning permission and, if needed, handle all submissions to your local council on your behalf.

What is a party wall agreement and will I need one?

A party wall agreement is required when your property shares a boundary or structure with a neighbouring home, and your planned works may affect that shared wall or area. This is common with loft conversions, extensions, chimney alterations and other structural changes. You must notify your neighbours at least two months before work begins. The agreement protects both sides by clearly setting out how the work will be carried out and how any issues would be dealt with. If a party wall agreement is required, United Construction Group can guide you through the process and, if needed, put you in contact with an experienced party wall surveyor.Sample text. How long will a loft conversion take?

The duration of a loft conversion depends on the size and complexity of the design. A typical dormer loft conversion usually takes around 8 to 12 weeks once building work begins. More advanced conversions, such as hip-to-gable or mansard styles, may take slightly longer. Before any work starts, we will provide a clear timeline so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of the project.

Do I need to move out during the works?

In most cases, no. Loft conversions and many extensions can be carried out while you remain in your home, with minimal disruption to your daily routine. Construction typically begins externally or in unused areas of the property, with internal access required later in the process. We take great care to maintain a safe and tidy environment and communicate clearly so you always know what to expect.

Will a loft conversion or extension add value to my home?

Yes. Adding extra living space through a loft conversion or extension is one of the most effective ways to increase a property’s value. The exact increase depends on your location, design, and the quality of the build, but many homeowners see a strong return on investment as well as improved everyday living space.

How long are quotations valid for?

Our quotations are typically valid for 90 days. During this period, you are free to review, adjust and finalise the design and specification to suit your needs. We understand that plans can evolve, and we are happy to support any changes before the project officially begins.

Can I see previous projects completed by United Construction Group?

Yes. We have a wide range of completed projects across London and surrounding areas. We can provide case studies, before-and-after images, and customer references. Where possible, and with the homeowner’s permission, we can also arrange for you to visit a completed project to see our quality of workmanship in person.

What insurances and guarantees do you provide?

United Construction Group is fully insured, including public liability and employer’s liability cover. All documentation can be provided upon request. We also offer a comprehensive workmanship warranty of up to 10 years, giving you long-term peace of mind once your project is complete.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch with our team to arrange a free site survey. We will visit your property, discuss your ideas and requirements, and provide expert guidance on the best options for your home. Following the survey, you’ll receive a clear and detailed quotation with no obligation to proceed. From there, we support you through every step of the process, from design to completion.

Will my project comply with building regulations?

Yes. All work carried out by United Construction Group is completed in accordance with current UK building regulations. We ensure the correct structural, fire safety, insulation and energy efficiency standards are followed throughout the build. If building control approval is required, we will advise you on the process and support you in arranging the necessary inspections and certification.

Do you handle design and structural drawings?

Yes. We have an experienced in-house design team along with specialist structural engineers who produce all the drawings and calculations needed for planning applications, permitted development approvals and the construction stage. This allows us to design your project correctly from the beginning and ensure everything is delivered smoothly and to a high standard.

What payment structure do you require?

We operate a clear stage-payment structure that is linked to the progress of your project. Payments are only made once specific stages of work have been completed and signed off, giving you full transparency and confidence throughout the build. All terms are outlined in writing before any work begins, so you always know exactly what to expect.

How disruptive is the construction process?

We aim to keep disruption to a minimum. Much of the initial work for loft conversions and certain extensions takes place externally or in areas not currently used as living space. When work does move inside, we ensure clear access routes, dust protection and regular communication, so you always know what to expect. Your home will remain safe, tidy and functional throughout the project as far as reasonably possible.

Can you assist with kitchens, bathrooms and interior finishes?

Yes. We can install all kitchens, bathrooms and interior finishes required as part of your build. You are welcome to choose and supply your preferred products, and if needed, we can help source trusted suppliers and recommend options that suit your design and budget.
